Habitat
This species primarily inhabits the eastern rainforests of Madagascar, favoring dense, humid evergreen forests with abundant tree cover. They are found from sea level up to about 1,800 meters in elevation, often in areas with thick undergrowth and access to water sources.
Diet
The Furry-eared dwarf lemur feeds mainly on fruits, insects, and nectar, with a particular preference for ripe fruits and tree sap from plants like tamarind. They are nocturnal foragers, using their strong sense of smell to locate food in the dark, and occasionally consume flowers or small invertebrates.
Behavior
These lemurs are primarily nocturnal and solitary, emerging at night to forage and socialize occasionally with mates. They are arboreal, moving through trees with quick leaps and exhibiting torpor during the dry season to conserve energy. Territorial behavior involves scent marking with urine and glandular secretions to defend their home ranges.
Conservation Status
The IUCN classifies the Furry-eared dwarf lemur as Vulnerable due to ongoing habitat loss from deforestation and fragmentation. Major threats include agriculture, logging, and climate change, with population trends showing a decline.
