Habitat
This species inhabits deep waters of the Pacific Ocean, primarily on continental shelves and slopes at depths ranging from 200 to 2,000 meters. It prefers cold, temperate regions such as around Japan, New Zealand, and Chile, often near the seafloor.
Diet
The Pacific sleeper shark feeds on a variety of prey including fish like cod and flounder, squid, octopuses, and crustaceans. It also scavenges carrion and may opportunistically hunt marine mammals. Feeding occurs mainly in deep waters, with the shark using ambush tactics due to its slow movement.
Behavior
Pacific sleeper sharks are solitary and primarily benthic, spending most of their time near the ocean floor in deep waters. They exhibit slow, lethargic swimming patterns and are not particularly territorial. These sharks are generally nocturnal or crepuscular, becoming more active during low-light conditions.
Conservation Status
Listed as Data Deficient by IUCN.
