Habitat
Fleurete's sportive lemur primarily inhabits dry deciduous forests and spiny bush thickets in western Madagascar. They prefer areas with dense vegetation for shelter and food, typically at elevations below 500 meters. This terrain provides ample trees for arboreal living and protection from predators.
Diet
Fleurete's sportive lemur mainly eats leaves, fruits, and flowers from trees such as tamarind and fig species. They are nocturnal feeders, foraging alone at night to minimize energy expenditure and avoid detection. Their diet is supplemented by occasional insects, aiding in nutrient intake.
Behavior
Fleurete's sportive lemur is solitary and nocturnal, spending days hidden in tree hollows or dense foliage to avoid threats. They exhibit territorial behavior, marking areas with scent glands and vocal calls to defend resources. Males and females interact mainly during mating, with individuals traveling up to a kilometer in their home range at night.
Conservation Status
The IUCN classifies Fleurete's sportive lemur as Endangered, with a decreasing population trend due to habitat destruction from deforestation and agriculture. Major threats include hunting for the pet trade and fragmentation of forest habitats.
