Habitat

Finlayson's squirrels inhabit tropical and subtropical forests in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and southern China. They prefer deciduous and evergreen woodlands, as well as plantations and urban areas with trees, adapting well to both primary and secondary forests.

Diet

They primarily eat fruits, nuts, seeds, and flowers, supplemented by insects, bird eggs, and occasionally small vertebrates. Feeding occurs mainly during the day, with squirrels foraging in trees and on the ground, often caching food for later use.

Behavior

Finlayson's squirrels are diurnal and arboreal, spending most of their time in trees where they build nests from leaves and twigs. They live in small family groups but can be territorial, communicating with vocalizations and tail flicks to warn of danger or establish boundaries. They are agile climbers and often engage in playful chasing among group members.

Conservation Status

Finlayson's squirrels are classified as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a stable population trend, though they face threats from habitat loss due to deforestation and urbanization.
