Habitat

Emilia's marmosets primarily inhabit tropical rainforests in western Brazil, especially in areas with dense undergrowth and canopy cover. They prefer lowland forests near rivers and streams, avoiding open or disturbed areas.

Diet

They feed on fruits, insects, tree sap, and small vertebrates like lizards. Foraging occurs in the canopy during the day, often in social groups to locate food efficiently.

Behavior

Emilia's marmosets live in small family groups of 4-15 individuals, exhibiting highly social behavior with frequent grooming and vocal communications. They are diurnal, active during the day, and defend territories using calls and scent marking, while being agile climbers that spend most of their time in trees.

Conservation Status

The IUCN lists Emilia's marmoset as Vulnerable due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture; population trends are decreasing.
