Overview

In the northern portion of its range-is the most deeply colored of the bohor reedbucks, being quite reddish, with the black stripe on the forelegs well marked. The horns are large, with the tips hooked sharply forward and usually inward.

Habitat

Flood plains, open grasslands and reedbeds. Distribution- The northeastern corner of Congo (K), Uganda, southern Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania.

Diet

Grazes on grasses and reeds.

Behavior

This animal tends to hide for protection and only runs from predators as a last resort. Very active among the reeds and water it inhabits, feeding at night.

Hunting

Many are taken as chance encounters while hunting other species. They are very secretive and wary, making them a very impressive game animal that is a challenge to hunt. Difficult to hunt oftentimes due to the habitat that they hide within being too marshy to make a succesful stalk. They are sometimes hunted by being pushed out of thick cover or gulleys that they are expected to be within.

Conservation Status

Listed as Least Concern by IUCN, with the potential that population trends are moving towards classifying this animal as Near Threatened.
