Habitat

This species primarily inhabits tropical rainforests in South America, especially the Amazon basin, favoring dense undergrowth, riverine areas, and elevations up to 1,000 meters. They are adaptable to secondary forests but avoid open or highly disturbed areas.

Diet

The Delicate slender opossum feeds on insects, fruits, and small vertebrates like frogs or lizards, often foraging on the ground or in low vegetation. It is nocturnal, using its sharp senses to hunt at night, and supplements its diet with nectar or seeds when available.

Behavior

These opossums are solitary and nocturnal, spending their days hidden in tree hollows or dense foliage and emerging at night to forage. They exhibit arboreal agility with their prehensile tails and are territorial, using scent marking to defend small home ranges. They may play dead when threatened, a behavior known as thanatosis.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Least Concern, with a stable population trend, though habitat loss from deforestation poses a potential threat in parts of its range.
