Habitat

This species primarily inhabits lowland and montane tropical rainforests in Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, and Sumatra. They prefer dense canopies in primary and secondary forests, often at elevations up to 1,500 meters, where they can move easily between trees.

Diet

The Cream-coloured giant squirrel feeds mainly on fruits, nuts, seeds, and bark from trees like figs and dipterocarps. They are active foragers during the day, using their strong claws to access food in the canopy, and occasionally consume insects or young leaves.

Behavior

These squirrels are diurnal and arboreal, spending most of their time in the upper canopy where they forage and rest. They are generally solitary but may form pairs during mating season, exhibit territorial behavior by vocalizing and chasing intruders, and use scent marking to define their ranges.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Near Threatened, with populations decreasing due to habitat loss from deforestation and fragmentation. Major threats include logging and agricultural expansion in their rainforest habitats.
