Habitat
This species inhabits the Atlantic Forest in northeastern Brazil, preferring dense, lowland tropical rainforests with abundant undergrowth. Diet
Coimbra Filho's titi monkeys primarily eat fruits such as figs and berries, supplemented by leaves, insects, and occasionally flowers. They forage in the mid-canopy during the day, often in pairs or small family groups, and spend significant time searching for food in the early morning and late afternoon.
Behavior
These monkeys are monogamous and live in small family groups consisting of a breeding pair and their offspring, exhibiting strong pair bonds through mutual grooming and vocal duets. They are diurnal, active during the day, and highly territorial, marking their areas with calls and scents. Notable behaviors include leaping between branches and emitting loud, whistling calls to communicate and defend territory.
Conservation Status
Coimbra Filho's titi is classified as Endangered by the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss from deforestation and fragmentation. Population trends show a continuing decline, with major threats including agriculture expansion and urbanization.
