Habitat

This species primarily inhabits montane and submontane forests in Cameroon, often in moist, dense undergrowth at elevations between 1,000 and 2,500 meters. It prefers areas with leaf litter and rotting logs for cover and foraging.

Diet

The Cameroonian forest shrew feeds mainly on insects, earthworms, and other small invertebrates found in soil and leaf litter. It forages actively at night, using its snout to probe for prey. Feeding is continuous due to its high metabolic rate.

Behavior

Cameroonian forest shrews are solitary and nocturnal, spending days hidden in burrows or under vegetation. They are territorial, marking areas with scent glands, and exhibit rapid, darting movements while foraging. They have a high activity level to meet their energy needs.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Data Deficient due to limited research, but potential threats include habitat loss from deforestation. Population trends are unknown, though it may be stable in protected areas.
