Habitat

This subspecies primarily inhabits arid and semi-arid regions, including deserts, scrublands, and grasslands in southwestern Iran. They prefer flat or gently sloping terrain with sparse vegetation for foraging and cover. Geographic preferences are limited to coastal and inland areas of the Bushehr province.

Diet

The Bushehr gazelle feeds on a variety of grasses, leaves, shoots, and fruits from shrubs and herbs. They are primarily grazers and browsers, often foraging in the early morning and late afternoon to avoid the heat. Feeding behavior includes selective browsing to maximize nutrition in nutrient-poor environments.

Behavior

Bushehr gazelles are social animals that form herds of 5-20 individuals, typically led by a dominant male. They are diurnal, active during the day for feeding and resting, and exhibit territorial behavior where males mark and defend their areas. Notable behaviors include high-speed running to evade predators and alarm calls to warn the herd.

Conservation Status

The Bushehr gazelle is classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN due to habitat loss from agriculture and overgrazing, with populations declining rapidly. Major threats include poaching and fragmentation of their habitat in Iran.
