Habitat
They primarily inhabit the Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil, favoring humid, lowland tropical forests with dense vegetation. These areas provide ample trees for arboreal living and access to food sources. They avoid open or disturbed habitats due to their need for canopy cover.
Diet
Their diet includes fruits, insects, and tree exudates like gum and sap, which they obtain by gouging bark with their specialized teeth. They are omnivorous and forage in small groups during the day, spending significant time searching for food in the canopy. Feeding peaks in the morning and late afternoon.
Behavior
They live in small family groups of 2-15 individuals with a dominant breeding pair, exhibiting cooperative care for offspring. These marmosets are diurnal and highly arboreal, spending most of their time in trees and communicating through various vocalizations and scent marking. They are territorial, defending their home ranges with aggressive displays.
