Habitat

Brown titi monkeys primarily inhabit the tropical rainforests of western Brazil, especially in the Amazon basin. They prefer dense undergrowth, riverine forests, and areas with thick vegetation for cover and foraging. Their range is restricted to specific regions due to habitat fragmentation.

Diet

Brown titi monkeys mainly eat fruits, supplemented by leaves, seeds, and insects. They forage in the forest canopy during early morning and late afternoon, using their hands to handle and consume food. This frugivorous diet helps in seed dispersal within their habitat.

Behavior

Brown titi monkeys live in monogamous pairs or small family groups and are highly territorial, defending their area with loud duet calls. They are diurnal, active during the day, and spend time grooming each other to strengthen bonds. These monkeys move slowly through the middle to upper forest levels, relying on vocalizations for communication and alarm.

Conservation Status

The IUCN lists the Brown titi as Endangered due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Population trends are decreasing rapidly, with major threats including fragmentation of their rainforest habitat.
