Habitat
This species inhabits montane forests and highlands of Borneo, typically at elevations between 1,000 and 3,000 meters, where it prefers dense undergrowth and rocky areas. It is adapted to cool, moist environments with plenty of tree cover for foraging and shelter.
Diet
The Bornean mountain ground squirrel feeds on a variety of nuts, seeds, fruits, and insects, often foraging on the ground or in low vegetation. It is active during the day and may cache food for later use, helping it survive in its seasonal environment.
Behavior
This squirrel is diurnal and primarily terrestrial, though it climbs trees when necessary, often living in small family groups with defined territories. It exhibits alert and agile behavior, frequently standing on hind legs to scan for threats, and communicates through vocalizations and tail movements.
Conservation Status
The IUCN status is Least Concern, with a stable population trend, though habitat loss from deforestation poses a potential threat in its mountainous range.
