Habitat

This species primarily inhabits coral reefs, rocky crevices, and lagoon areas in the Indo-Pacific oceans, often at depths of 1 to 100 meters. They prefer sheltered spots like caves and overhangs for daytime hiding, and are commonly found in warm tropical waters around islands and coastlines.

Diet

Blue-lined squirrelfish are nocturnal predators that feed mainly on small fishes, shrimps, crabs, and other benthic invertebrates. They hunt actively at night in reef environments, using their keen eyesight to detect prey in dim light, and typically forage near the substrate.

Behavior

Blue-lined squirrelfish are primarily nocturnal, spending days hidden in coral crevices and emerging at night to hunt. They exhibit solitary or small group behavior, are territorial around their shelters, and use their spines and camouflaged coloration for defense against threats.

Conservation Status

Listed as Least Concern by IUCN.
