Habitat

Black titi monkeys primarily inhabit the tropical rainforests of western Amazonia, including regions in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. They prefer the understory and lower canopy of mature, humid forests, avoiding open or disturbed areas.

Diet

They mainly eat fruits, seeds, and leaves, supplemented with insects and occasionally flowers. Feeding occurs primarily in the early morning and late afternoon, with pairs or small groups foraging in the forest canopy.

Behavior

Black titi monkeys are monogamous and live in small family groups of 2-4 individuals, often defending territories through vocalizations. They are diurnal, spending their days foraging and resting in trees, and communicate with soft calls and grooming behaviors.

Conservation Status

The IUCN classifies the Black titi as Vulnerable due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Population trends are decreasing, with major threats including fragmentation of rainforest habitats.
