Diet

Feeds mainly on grasses, leaves, and succulent shrubs, which provide necessary moisture in dry conditions. They are primarily nocturnal feeders, grazing during cooler evening hours to avoid daytime heat and predation.

Behavior

Black jackrabbits are solitary and territorial, marking their areas with scat and chasing away intruders. They are primarily nocturnal or crepuscular, using high-speed runs and zigzagging escapes to evade threats, and they rely on keen hearing and sight for survival.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Vulnerable due to habitat loss from invasive species and human activities; population trends are decreasing.
