Habitat

Ashy black titi monkeys primarily inhabit the tropical rainforests of the western Amazon, including regions in Peru, Brazil, and Bolivia. They prefer dense understory and riverine forests with plenty of vegetation for cover. These areas provide the trees and foliage necessary for their arboreal lifestyle.

Diet

Ashy black titi monkeys mainly consume fruits, insects, and leaves, with seeds making up a smaller portion of their diet. They forage in the middle and lower canopy layers, often in pairs or small groups. Feeding activity peaks in the early morning and late afternoon when resources are abundant.

Behavior

Ashy black titi monkeys live in monogamous pairs or small family groups, exhibiting strong territorial behavior defended through vocal calls. They are diurnal, spending most of their time in trees where they forage and rest. These monkeys are agile climbers and engage in mutual grooming to strengthen social bonds.

Conservation Status

The IUCN classifies the Ashy black titi as Vulnerable due to ongoing habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Population trends are decreasing, with major threats including fragmentation of rainforest habitats.
