Habitat
The Angola colobus primarily inhabits lowland and montane forests in East and Central Africa, including countries like Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Uganda. They prefer areas with dense canopy cover and proximity to rivers for food and shelter.
Diet
The Angola colobus mainly feeds on leaves, fruits, and seeds from trees, with a preference for young, nutrient-rich foliage. They are folivorous and spend much of the day foraging in the canopy, often in groups to access higher branches.
Behavior
Angola colobus live in troops of 3 to 15 individuals, typically led by a dominant male, and exhibit strong social bonds through grooming and vocalizations. They are arboreal and diurnal, spending their time leaping between trees and defending territories with alarm calls. These monkeys are generally peaceful but can be territorial during mating seasons.
Conservation Status
The IUCN status is Least Concern, but some subspecies are vulnerable due to habitat loss from deforestation and hunting pressure. Population trends are decreasing across their range.
