Habitat

This species inhabits tropical and subtropical forests in eastern Brazil, preferring areas with dense undergrowth and proximity to water sources. It is typically found in lowland and montane forests up to 1,000 meters elevation, avoiding open or highly disturbed areas.

Diet

Agricola's gracile opossum primarily feeds on insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates, supplemented by fruits and seeds when available. It forages nocturnally on the ground and in low vegetation, using its keen senses to locate food in the dark.

Behavior

This opossum is nocturnal and solitary, spending its days in tree hollows or dense foliage and emerging at night to forage. It exhibits territorial behavior, marking areas with scent glands, and is generally non-aggressive, relying on climbing to escape threats. Females care for their young in a pouch before they become independent.

Conservation Status

Agricola's gracile opossum is classified as Data Deficient by the IUCN, with limited data on population trends; habitat loss due to deforestation in Brazil is a potential threat.
