Habitat
African golden cats primarily inhabit dense rainforests and moist evergreen forests in Central and West Africa, preferring areas with thick undergrowth and proximity to rivers. They are also found in montane forests up to 3,000 meters elevation, avoiding open savannas and arid regions.
Diet
This cat preys mainly on small to medium-sized mammals like rodents, monkeys, and duikers, as well as birds and occasionally reptiles or fruits. It hunts primarily at night using stealth and ambush tactics, often in the forest understory.
Behavior
African golden cats are solitary and territorial, marking their ranges with scent and vocalizations; they are primarily nocturnal, resting in dens during the day. They are agile climbers and swimmers, often using trees for hunting and escape, and communicate through growls, hisses, and purrs.
