Habitat

Ader's duiker primarily inhabits coastal forests, thickets, and bushland in eastern Africa, specifically in Kenya and Tanzania. They prefer areas with dense undergrowth for cover and are often found near rivers or in lowland forests up to 500 meters elevation.

Diet

Ader's duiker feeds mainly on leaves, fruits, shoots, and occasionally fungi found in the understory. They are browsers that forage during dawn and dusk, using their keen senses to select nutritious plants in dense vegetation.

Behavior

Ader's duiker is typically solitary or found in pairs, with males being territorial and marking their areas with secretions. They are crepuscular, most active at dawn and dusk, and use alarm calls and quick escapes into thick cover to avoid threats. This species is generally shy and elusive, making it hard to observe in the wild.

Conservation Status

Ader's duiker is classified as Endangered by the IUCN due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture, as well as hunting pressure; populations are declining rapidly.
